In 2018, due to one of my past experiences with Halloween, I wrote a book called “Porch Light” – and for these last few weeks of October I am featuring this book.
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:12
I’m not sure what your opinion is on celebrating Halloween; if it’s something you celebrate, I’m not here to judge. Actually, I have celebrated it many times myself, but I am choosing to forego its festivities this year. Here’s why – I think most would agree that over the course of the last several months things in our world have taken a darker turn around us as people have become bolder and more outrageous in their SIN against others. Although in the past, many would hide their deeds of deception, meanness and evil, now it seems we have entered a different chapter these days.
Many false narratives plague innocent children, silent and deadly agendas conspire to entrap unsuspecting teens. Parents have been kept in the dark, often oblivious to anything going on – until it’s too late. In our country the rights of defending their own SIN and wrong doing involve others through violent protests, heated debates and vicious comments, which only keep the fires burning for anger, resentment and hate. Behind the computer screens, many debate and judge others by being motivated and thereby adding to their number of followers. These often do not care to exercise restraint or filter their rage – even when the person is standing in front of them. No one has a safe place to share their opinions for fear of retaliation of someone not agreeing with them. This allows the more nefarious crowds on social media to lead the cause by lining up trolls on every thread and platform, tearing at peoples character. Sadly, the bigger the shock and disgust the better, while everyone feels compelled to start an argument, spread lies and gossip, in sharing “EVERYTHING” on a public forum for all to see. Not to mention all the technology that is headed our way involving AI.
Perhaps now, like me, you can see why things look less bright in this world, and by being a follower of Christ, it is important to realize this doesn’t exempt us but instead makes us the enemy’s main target.
I John 1:6 says ~ If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
The main goal of devil and his darkness, is always to pull us away from God’s Holy LIght. However, let us be encouraged, that because JESUS took our SIN upon himself even to the cross, not even death’s Darkness gets the last word…
I John 1:7 says ~ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.
Ephesians 5:11 says ~ Take no part in the unfruitful works of the darkness, but instead expose them. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O Sleeper, and rise from the dead and Christ will shine on you”.
My sweet friend, the last thing I will add is this: MY own personal conviction about Halloween is I’ve seen enough darkness through the years of my life and nowadays, to know that I am ready to see more light. Halloween doesn’t hold a tea light candle of light for me because it is a distraction at best to detour me from the Call that Christ has placed on my life and how I represent HIM.
How about YOU? Where are you in your life, convictions and calling, when it comes to being a representative for HIM? I encourage you to to take some time and sit with the Truth of all these verses for a few minutes but in the meantime, please no that it is my prayer, that YOU will take steps into more of God’s Light and cast a glow for others so they can see JESUS.
People who are in the dark,
And searching for what shines,
Are looking for a porch light,
To give them all a sign.
So let us shine our light,
And help others to escape,
Hell’s Fiery Finality,
Before it is too late.

MAY YOU KEEP YOUR LIGHT ON ~ Jodie
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in Heaven. Matthew 5:16
