If you haven’t noticed, there has been a lot of buzz about odd mysterious things happening at night around different parts of the country. Most news reports and amateur reels are catching strange photos as well as videos of what appears to be drones, or something drone like. What’s more interesting is how no one really has nailed down what it is and what is happening, yet everyone is quick to offer their best guesses. It’s easy to be fascinated by things that we don’t understand or normal to be curious over something that seems alluring…
The Book of Matthew records a different story. God created a miraculous event, when a few dignitaries began to notice a unique STAR that appeared in the sky. Following its brilliant glow, they were led to where Jesus was, in Bethlehem.
Matthew 2:10-11 ESV – When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
This star was beyond bright and amazing. It was unlike any other constellation they had studied about or had seen before. However, these wise men recognized the appearance of this star was not just a strange phenomenon or coincidence. Perhaps, it was because they knew this wonderful event had been prophesied by Daniel many years before. Still, as spectacular an event as it was, they also knew it wasn’t the main event. For the light that outshined the other stars, would divinely lead them to Christ the King.
My friend, read the above verse again but this time pay close attention to not what they saw but the way they responded to what was seen. Did you catch what happened next? These travelers had not journeyed all that way to solve the mystery of the light in the heavens. Rather, they had traveled far to seek out the One who was sent from heaven, now come to earth. You see, they did not worship the light in the sky, but worshiped Jesus, the Light of the World.
I do not have any idea what people lately are seeing in the sky, that has them so captivated to spend countless hours and videos on this unknown subject, but I do know this… God sent HIS Son to be like us, be with us, and was given for us, but He was sinless and would one day die for our sins. After HE resurrected from the dead, this same Jesus ascended to the Heavens and promised to return again. Now we wait, not for strange things in the sky, but the return of our KING who very soon will come for us, for those who belong to HIM.
One thing is for sure, that when JESUS first came as a baby, only a selected group of people witnessed His arrival. Oh, but when JESUS comes back the next time, every eye will see and every knee will bow to worship HIM.
