Now that January is well underway, perhaps you have already started setting some goals or new resolutions for this year. However staying on course to achieve our goals, isn’t always easy. In fact, a few people must seek out help from life coaches or advisors to assist them.
Yet, often practical and logical paths of help aren’t always enough since they lack the necessary depth and foundation of TRUTH, found only within the pages of God’s Word. Just as it isn’t easy to stay on track with our thought out plans, choosing the right path in life can be somewhat of a challenge as well.
In the Book of 1 Kings, we can read about king named Solomon. During the time when Solomon first became king, he prayed to God for direction on how to please God in order to rule the people, as his father, King David, had before him. God then granted not only the gift of wisdom to rule, but blessed him with many other blessings in addition. One of the most noteworthy things about Solomon was that God had chosen him to build the temple of God for HIS people. At first, he was a king, who carefully sought after God as he ruled God’s people, using that gift of wisdom for God. This wisdom was known throughout every region and beyond. Sadly however, when it came to his own life, his own devotion in worshiping God as the only One True God, was wishy washy at best. During these times Solomon’s heart was not turned toward the LORD and yes, even his gift of wisdom, waned as disobedience replaced wise decisions, causing him to fall short not only as a king but as a person who could have been more for God.
So now maybe you can see how King Solomon was someone who knew firsthand what it takes to choose the right path. It’s because of this, he was not only a king but penned a few Books in the Bible, as well. He was one of the writers in the Book of Proverbs too. By the way, many instructions are given in the thirty-one chapters of Proverbs, and they are perfect for reading one each day of the month, again and again. In them, Solomon and other writers beckon readers to be wise, as well as also warn anyone to not make foolish choices which all humans make. If you carve out some time this year and start reading through Proverbs, you will find many takeaways from these messages in how they relate to every aspect of life, and God still uses them today to us bring us back to HIM. Such as Proverbs 1:1-7
So, how are YOU doing? Have you accomplished any of your goals or put into motion your carefully thought out plans yet? Do the insights you have currently, have you on God’s right path for you?
